MY 2011 RACES!!!

My races so far in 2011 ... 1) 04/17/11 4 mile ... Trolley Run (ran with Glenda and paced her to a 8:08 pace, which was a PR for her!) (Robert, and Glenda, and me) 2) 05/01/11 Half Marathon ... Indian Creek 5K for Safety & Health Council of Western MO & KS (missed the 5K turnaround and accidentally ran the half marathon! Not trained for a half marathon!! Placed 2nd place in my division) (Robert and me ... Robert ran the 5K ... Big John was in town and watched this race) 3) 5/15/11 5K ... BRGR Luv 4 Jazz 5K (Robert and me) 4) 5/22/11 Sprint Triathlon ... Kansas City Triathlon (38th out of 248) (Robert and me) 5) 5/30/11 8K ... Amy Thompson Run To Daylight 8K (Brain Injury) ... 36:16 (Robert, Glenda and me...we ran the 8K; Jen and Heather ran the 2 mile) 6) 9/05/11 5K ... Leawood Labor Day 5K ... 21:35 (just me) 7) 9/10/11 5K ... Hopkins Skip and Run 5K...Rockhurst Univ...21:15 (7:05 pace, very hilly race) (Ashley and me) 8) 9/10/11 5K ... Freedom 5K Run...Greenwood, MO (ran it with Emily ... Her first 5K, 8 yrs old! Just under 39:00, very hilly race!) (my entire family plus Robert, and Heather's whole family participated! ) 9) 9/17/11 10K ... Paulina Cooper Dot to Dot 10K...Corporate Woods 43:40 (7:07 pace) (just me) 10) 9/24/11 5K ... SACRED STEPS 5K (ran with Emily...her 2nd 5K! Afterwards, I ran "my own" 5K in the subdivision at 7:06 pace) (my whole family plus Robert, and Glenda; Ella, 4 yrs old, ran a kid's dash, her 1st race!!! ) Additonal races I am contemplating in 2011 include ... 10/15/11 KC Half Marathon (anti-climactic) 10/16/11 7 mile trail race ... Fall Fell Trail 7 mile trail race, Kill Creek Park, Olathe (something new and different) 12/03/11 8 hour adventure race ... Castlewood 8 hr Adventure Race ... Mountain Biking, Running, Paddling!!! (co-ed team of 4!) (something REALLY new and different!!!) PROFESSIONALLY, 2011 HAS BEEN A DEADLY CHALLENGING!!! So I am happy to have survived, much less keep in reasonable shape and manage to run a bunch of short races this year. My 5K's have been well off my sub-20 PR, but have been fun! Over the past 2-3 weeks, I have been ramping up my fitness, now working out 2 times per day, running an average of about 4 miles per day in the morning and biking 30-45 minutes at the end of the day. Found a rush hour route from my office to the airport and back. Very cool. Two nights ago I rode 22 miles with Deacy and a fast group of riders at 75 th St Brewery evening ride. I have only ridden about 6 times this year, instead jealously guarding whatever running mileage I could log this year despite the ongoing and worsening cluster$&@$ brought about my my former partner's 2007 mental meltdown. The ride felt great and was the start of a return to biking form. I am getting tuned up!!!! For what??? I don't know, other than attempting to return to fitness machine status for sanity's sake! ).

3 miles

Ran conservatively, since I surprisingly have a slight case of shin splints, dialing into 7:41 MP for the second 1 1/2 miles. Comfortable run.

9 x 400 intervals...

4x400 intervals on the track at 6:40 pace per my Garmin. Me and Robbie at Harmony. 44 degrees. No eind. Nice to get outside! It was crazy, soupy foggy so I had to beat it and get driving downtown before i got stuck in a foggy rush hour. Once I got downtown to the Q Hill Y, I ran another 5 intervals, 3 of them at 6:22, the 4th one at 6:15, and the last one at 5:56 pace. Felt pretty darn good for 9 intervals!!!

Monday & Tuesday ... 3 miles; 4 miles...

I can't remember Monday, but I ran my 3 miles. Tuesday I ran 4 miles at 9,8,7,8.5 pace for a 30 minute tempo run.

I ran 33 miles this week :-) :-)

33 miles!!! That makes me happy. Literally!! I think getting back into my best physical condition, not just good condition, affects my ability to handle to trials and tribulations of my professional life!!! I am quite excited for nice weather to come along. Me, Robbie, and Jen are off to a nice start for 2011 and will be able to hit the ground running!!!
